Sonamura, Tripura, th of November, 2025 : Sonamura Police, in joint operations with 81th BN BSF, Forest officials, and other agencies, carried out a massive crackdown on illicit Cannabis (Ganja) cultivation on Sunday (9th November, 2025) from 7:00 am to 1:30 pm at various locations of the district in the Kamal Nagar and Batadola areas under Sonamura Police Station. Around 2.60 lakh cannabis plants and saplings, spread over approximately 40 acres of land belonging to the Forest Department, were destroyed.

According to sources, Sonamura Police Station conducted raid and searched at Kamal Nagar and Batadola areas under Sonamura Police Station. A large-scale destruction operation was conducted under Sonamura Police station leading by Inspector Tapas Das, Officer in Charge Sonamura Police Station covering with support from 81 BN BSF (Deepak BOP, Dhanpur BOP, NC Nagar BOP, Batalab BOP, Matinagar BOP, Anandapur BOP) along with the Jatrapur Forest, Sonamura Forest, and Boxanagar Forest officials, as well as the 7th BN TSR, 11th BN TSR, and 14th BN TSR. A total of thirty six (36) cannabis (Ganja) plots and Two (2) cannabis nurseries over 40 acres were destroyed, uprooting approximately 2.60 lakh plants.
