Sonamura, Tripura, 25th of December 2025 : Sonamura police on Thursday (25th December, 2025) arrested two a case was registered against illegally money collected from drug-addicted youths and their family members by promising them improved treatment along with proper accommodation and food.
According to sources, an illegal drug de-addiction centre was being run in Dahlia under Sonamura, where money was illegally collected from drug-addicted youths and their family members by promising them improved treatment along with proper accommodation and food. However, it was found that drug-addicted youths were kept their illegally and forcibly, with no proper arrangements for food or living. They were allegedly subjected to severe physical and mental torture.
These allegations have been made against Mannan Chowdhury and his associates. It is alleged that they cheated drug-addicted youths and their families, betrayed their trust, illegally detained the youths, and subjected them to serious physical and mental harassment. In this connection, the DCM of Sonamura subdivisions submit an FIR at Sonamura Police Station. Based on this, a case was registered against Mannan Chowdhury and his associates. During the investigation, based on adequate evidence, Mannan Chowdhury of NC Nagar under Sonamura Police Station and one of his associates, Pranab Acharjee of Madhuban College Tilla under Sonamura Police Station, were arrested. They will be produced before the court tomorrow. Inspector Tapas Das, Officer in Charge Sonamura Police Station gave details about this today.
