Sonamura, Tripura, 28th of December, 2025 : On the basis of secret information Sepahijala District Police, in joint operations with BSF, TSR battalions, Forest officials and other agencies, carried out a massive crackdown on illicit Ganja (cannabis) cultivation on Sunday (28th December, 2025) from the morning 10:45 am at various locations of the district.

A large-scale destruction operation was conducted under Sonamura Police Station leading by Inspector Tapas Das, Officer-In-Charge of Sonamura Police Station covering Kamalnagar, Galachipa, Lacharbari area forest land with active support from 81 BN BSF, 49 BN BSF, 5th BN TSR, 9th BN TSR, 7th BN TSR, 11BN TSR, Sonamura sub-division forest teams, 14th BN women TSR and other sister agencies. A total of 29 illicit Ganja plots were destroyed, uprooting approximately 1.8 lakh matured Ganja plants, which have been planted covering the area approx 45 acres in forest land. The destination market value of the seized ganja is approx – 36,000, 000/-.

Interacted with media Inspector Tapas Das, Officer in Charge Sonamura Police Station gave details about this today. OC also stated that such operations against illegal contrabands would continue next day.
