Agartala, Tripura, 29th of December 2025 : Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha chaired a review meeting of the Tripura Handloom & Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd. & Khadi and Village Industries Board at the Secretariat, Agartala, Tripura on Monday (29th December, 2025).

“The handloom and handicraft industries of Tripura not only strengthen the state’s rural economy but also form an important part of its heritage and culture. The state government is implementing various initiatives to promote the development of the handloom and handicraft sector”, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha stated this while addressing the meeting of Tripura Handloom & Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd. & Khadi and Village Industries Board.
While chairing the meeting the Chief Minister reviewed the overall functioning of the corporation and said that it is extremely important to ensure professionalism and transparency at every stage of the handloom and handicraft sector—ranging from production and quality control to business development and marketing. He emphasized that the acceptability of the products must be further enhanced by incorporating both modern and traditional designs in line with the demands of national and international markets. In this regard, the Chief Minister advised officials to place special emphasis on training programs by bringing in expert trainers from outside.
Chief Minister emphasized the need to move beyond conventional craftsmanship and focus on innovative artistic work. In this context, the Chief Minister also stressed the importance of establishing connections with investors who are interested in purchasing the state’s products.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister directed the officials present to further strengthen product design development, quality control, the branding process, enhancement of artisans’ skills, exposure to modern and innovative designs, and to place greater emphasis on training programs. He said that the state’s Risa as well as its handloom and handicraft products enjoy immense popularity and are part of the state’s rich heritage. He added that greater efforts must be made to further improve the quality of these products and showcase them on the global stage.
The Chief Minister also added that there is considerable talent among the youth of the state, especially among those from the tribal communities, and emphasized the need to harness and utilize this talent effectively.
Amidst the distinguished participants there were, Hon’ble Tribal Welfare, Handloom, Handicrafts & Sericulture, Statistics Minister Bikash Debbarma, the Chief Minister’s Secretary, Dr. Pradip Kumar Chakraborty, the Secretary of the Industries Department Kiran Gitte, senior officials and many others remained present in the meeting.
After this meeting, a review meeting of the Tripura Khadi & Village Industries Board was held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha. During the review meeting, the Chief Minister said that there is a strong demand for Khadi products across the country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given special importance to products produced by the Khadi Village Industries in order to build an Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India). Therefore, in keeping with changing times and consumer demand, the quality, design, and other aspects of Khadi products must be improved. Along with this, proper planning must also be undertaken for the sale of these products.

The Chief Minister also emphasized the importance of setting up a matchstick factory in the state. He took detailed stock of the Tripura Khadi Village Industry Board’s management system, product manufacturing, product sales, financial condition, and other related matters. On this issue, the Chief Minister was briefed in detail by the Director of the Khadi Board, Dr. Dipak Kumar.
The Secretary of the Industries and Commerce Department, Kiran Gitte, the CEO of the Khadi Board, and other senior officials participated in the meeting.
