Khowai, Tripura, 7th of January, 2026 : With The Initiative of Fisheries Department Government of Tripura organized 2nd District Level Fish Festival at Zilla Parishad Ground, Office Tilla, Khowai on Wednesday (7th January, 2026).
Hon’ble Chief Whip of Tripura Legislative Assembly and MLA Kalyani Roy inaugurated the 2nd District Level Fish Festival by lighting the lamp.
Amidst the other distinguished dignitaries there were MLA Ranjit Debbarma, MLA Pinaki Das Chowdhury, Social activist Samir Kumar Das, Khowai Zilla Saha-Sabhadipati Aparna Singh Roy (Datta), Khowai District Magistrate & Collector, Rajat Pant and many other dignitaries were present in the inauguration ceremony.
Addressing at the inauguration ceremony MLA Ranjit Debbarma urged the Khowai Fisheries Department to take appropriate measures, as many water bodies in different areas of the Khowai subdivision dry up during this period, particularly in the months of December and January.
It has been alleged that, a few days ago the Chief Minister of the state visited the foundation stone–laying ceremony of Khowai District Hospital and he instructed all departments to ensure that local elected representatives are invited to Government programmes. However, defying the Chief Minister’s directive, the Khowai Fisheries Department allegedly ignored the order and went ahead with the district-level fisheries fair without inviting the local MLA. Fish sales have been arranged at the fisheries fair, but locals attending the fair have further complained that the prices of fish are higher than the market rates.
