Ampi, Tripura, 19th of January 2026 : Government Degree College, Khumulwng, celebrated the 48th Kokborok Day with great enthusiasm and traditional pomp on January 19, 2026, on its campus. The event was organized by the Department of Kokborok, led by its faculty and students. The day’s festivities commenced with a vibrant rally from the college campus to the Khumulwng Dukmali Hati. Staff and students, singing Kokborok songs and raising slogans, participated in the rally, showcasing their cultural pride.

The ceremony was graced by distinguished dignitaries. Dr. Biman Debbarma, Linguistic Officer of Tripura University (A Central University), presided as the Chief Guest. The Guests of Honour were Dr. Tulan Mochahary, Assistant Professor, Department of Bodo, Lokanayak Omeo Kumar Das College, Assam, and Sri Ansai Daimary, faculty of the Education Department, Udalguri College, Assam. Sri Bikash Daimary, a professional musician from Udalguri District, Assam, was also present to witness the cultural program.
The dais was shared by the college leadership, including Dr. Bhupendra Debbarma, Principal; Sri Pradip Debbarma, Assistant Professor, Department of History; and Sri Rabindra Debbarma, Head and In-Charge, Kokborok Department.
A highlight of the event was the release of the Kokborok magazine, “Khumulwng,” featuring a compilation of articles and poems in the language. The cultural extravaganza presented by students was met with widespread appreciation.

In their addresses, the dignitaries emphasized the vital importance of celebrating Kokborok Day and discussed ongoing initiatives to preserve, promote, and develop the Kokborok language.
The program was adeptly coordinated and anchored by Mr. Daniel Debbarma, Assistant Professor and HoD/In-Charge of the Department of Education. The vote of thanks was delivered by Sri Pradip Debbarma, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science. The celebration concluded on a traditional note with a communal feast, featuring authentic delicacies such as Awang Baingwi and Mosodeng, symbolizing the rich culinary heritage of the community
