Dharmanagar, Tripura, 22nd of February, 2026 : A Bihar resident was apprehended by Churaibari Police in Assam while trying to smuggle cannabis on a night bus. The incident took place around 10 PM on Saturday when a night bus traveling from Agartala to Guwahati entered Churaibari in Assam. Under the leadership of Officer-i n-Charge Niranjan Das, police conducted a routine search of passengers. During the inspection, approximately two kilograms of dried cannabis were recovered from the bag of a passenger identified as Ravi Shankar Singh (47). The police have registered a case against the accused under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

According to sources, the accused, Ravi Shankar Singh, son of late Shambhusaran Singh, is a resident of Nawada district in Bihar. He is currently residing in Badarpur for work purposes. During interrogation, he reportedly stated that he had collected the cannabis from an individual at Agartala Railway Station and was transporting it. He also admitted that this was the second time he had carried cannabis in this manner.Due to intensified police action, smugglers are reportedly unable to transport large consignments of cannabis through Churaibari. As a result, they are adopting alternative methods, including posing as regular passengers and carrying smaller quantities—two to four kilograms at a time—to smuggle the contraband to other states.
