Dharmanagar, Tripura, 5th of April, 2026 : Political tensions are escalating ahead of the upcoming by-election in the 56-Dharmanagar constituency. Amid this, serious allegations have surfaced claiming that cash is being distributed to voters due to fears of a potential defeat of the Congress candidate. The incident has created a stir across the area. According to reports, the alleged distribution took place in the Moshar Tila area under Ward No. 4 of Booth No. 17 in Algapur Gram Panchayat, Dharmanagar. A section of local residents has claimed that money was handed out to influence voters. Villagers alleged that three individuals involved in distributing the cash were carrying Congress party flags. They reportedly urged residents to vote for a specific candidate. The incident has triggered resentment among locals, many of whom have termed it a violation of democratic norms.

However, no official response has yet been received from the Congress regarding these allegations. Meanwhile, opposition political parties have indicated that they will raise the issue strongly. They have demanded an immediate investigation to ensure a free and fair election.
It is noteworthy that the by-election is scheduled to be held on April 9. As political competition intensifies in Dharmanagar, such allegations have also raised questions about the role of the administration in maintaining law and order. Political observers believe that the situation could become more tense in the coming days.
