Dharmanagar, Tripura, 10th of March, 2026 : Two trucks have been permanently banned following a violent incident at the Food Storage Depot (FSD) of the Food Corporation of India (FCI) in Dharmanagar. According to an order issued by the Agartala Divisional Office of the Food Corporation of India, the two vehicles will no longer be allowed to enter or operate at any FCI depot.Sources said that on 7 February 2026, a serious incident took place at the weighbridge and office premises of the Dharmanagar FSD depot. Based on a written complaint filed by the depot manager, the matter was reported to Dharmanagar Police Station. The complaint alleges that truck drivers Rajib Ali and Liton Mia, who were working under the handling and transport contract, obstructed work by disobeying instructions from depot officials. It is further alleged that they later attacked FCI personnel using iron rods and bricks.During the incident, DGR security personnel Ganesh sustained injuries after being struck with an iron rod. In addition, Gaurav Vashisth, the QC Manager of FSD Dharmanagar, was seriously injured after being hit on the head with a brick and required medical treatment.

Considering the seriousness of the incident, the FCI authorities decided to permanently ban the two trucks with immediate effect. Meanwhile, four handling workers have also been banned from all FCI activities due to allegations of irregularities at the Dharmanagar FCI warehouse. This decision was communicated through an order issued by the Agartala Divisional Office of the corporation.According to sources, on 10 November 2025, the North District Administration had sent a written complaint to FCI authorities. The complaint stated that while lifting food grains from the Dharmanagar FSD warehouse under the Public Distribution System (PDS), some handling workers were allegedly obstructing loading operations and demanding extra money.Based on this complaint, FCI initiated an investigation.
During the probe, a meeting was held on 19 November 2025 with officials from the Food and Transport Department of the Tripura Government. The matter was discussed in detail, and the names of several workers emerged during the discussion. The four workers identified in the investigation are Rupu Nandi, Fakrul Islam, Dipak Kumar Singh and Sudip Debnath. They were allegedly involved in obstructing the loading of PDS food grains and demanding additional money. In this regard, FCI issued a show-cause notice to the concerned agency on 13 January, asking for a reply within seven days. However, as no response was received within the stipulated time, the authorities took strict action.

According to the order, the four accused workers must be immediately withdrawn from all FCI-related work. They will not be allowed to engage in any present or future work under FCI. The concerned agency has also been directed to appoint four new workers in their place. In protest against the decision, a section of workers has launched an indefinite strike over the past few days. As a result, the supply of food grains to various ration shops under the Food Department has been disrupted, causing concern among the general public. On Tuesday, Bagbasa MLA Yadabalal Nath visited the depot to assess the situation. He spoke with the depot’s officer-in-charge and urged the workers to end the strike quickly so that normal operations at the depot can resume and the supply of ration to the public remains uninterrupted.
