ARDD–TRESP Initiative Promotes Scientific Livestock Farming Through Exposure Visit.

Agartala, Tripura, 8th of March, 2026 : In a significant step towards strengthening rural livelihoods, the Animal Resources Development Department, Tripura under the World Bank–supported Tripura Rural Economic Growth and Service Delivery Project (TRESP) has organized a two-day inter-state exposure visit for members of Livestock Producer Groups. The initiative reflects the department’s continued commitment to enhancing livestock-based livelihoods in tribal areas through capacity building and knowledge exchange.

A group of 23 Livestock Producer Group beneficiaries from different RD Blocks under District Project Management Unit (DPMU) west Tripura participated in the programme, travelling to the ICAR–National Research Centre on Pig, Rani, Guwahati to take part in a specialized training programme on scientific pig farming and improved goat rearing practices. The visit is being conducted under the supervision of Dr. Pallika Debbarma , Assistant Director,ARDD who is serving as the In-Charge Officer of the exposure programme.

The participants were formally seen off from Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport, Agartala by Dr. Rahul Dhar Purkayastha, Nodal Officer (PIU-ARDD), Dr. Sujoy Biswas, Programme Manager (PIU-ARDD), and Dr. Joydeb Majumder, Livestock Specialist from the TRESP Project Management Unit. During the briefing, officials emphasized the importance of adopting scientific livestock management, improved breeding techniques, proper feeding practices and disease control measures to enhance productivity and income.

Through such exposure visits, ARDD and TRESP aim to equip rural livestock farmers with practical knowledge and modern techniques, thereby strengthening the livestock value chain, improving producer group capacity and promoting sustainable livelihood opportunities for tribal communities across Tripura.
