Dharmanagar, Tripura, 4th of April, 2026 : The political atmosphere in the 56th Dharmanagar Assembly by-election is heating up with each passing day. As the election draws closer, the three-cornered contest has intensified, with every political party striving to strengthen its position. From the ruling party to the opposition, all sides have launched aggressive campaigns to win over voters. Door-to-door outreach efforts are in full swing across neighborhoods, as parties try to connect directly with the electorate. The Congress is also actively engaged in this campaign battle.

On Saturday, a large-scale door-to-door campaign was carried out in the Dharmanagar constituency in support of Congress candidate Chayan Bhattacharya. The campaign was led by Kailashahar MLA and senior Tripura Pradesh Congress leader Birajit Sinha. He was accompanied by Congress leader Badruzzaman and other party members and workers.During the campaign, Congress leaders visited households, seeking support and urging voters to elect their candidate in the upcoming by-election. Beyond just asking for votes, they interacted with residents, listening carefully to their concerns and demands. According to the party, this direct engagement has further strengthened Congress’s presence among the people.

Speaking to journalists, MLA Birajit Sinha strongly criticized the CPI(M). He stated that in the previous elections, there had been a seat-sharing agreement between Congress and CPI(M), based on which both parties had conducted their political campaigns. He also highlighted that Congress has a strong vote base in Dharmanagar. However, he alleged that in three recent by-elections in the state, Congress refrained from fielding candidates as CPI(M) had contested. In contrast, for the current Dharmanagar by-election, CPI(M) announced its candidate without any discussion, which he described as a “betrayal.”

According to him, had the earlier seat-sharing arrangement been maintained, Congress would have had a much smoother path to victory in this constituency.Despite the situation, Congress leaders remain confident. Birajit Sinha asserted that the people of Dharmanagar have traditionally placed their trust in Congress and expressed hope that this trust will continue in the by-election. He confidently predicted a decisive victory for Congress candidate Chayan Bhattacharya. He also outlined the party’s post-election plans, stating that if Congress wins, their first priority would be to establish a railway division in Dharmanagar—a long-standing demand of the local population.

Additionally, he promised to restore democratic rights, improve civic services, and maintain a peaceful environment in the region. As the by-election date approaches, the political equations in Dharmanagar are becoming increasingly complex and intense. Campaigns, counter- campaigns, and political clashes have made the contest more competitive than ever. Now, all eyes are on who will ultimately emerge victorious in this closely fought battle.
