Dharmanagar, Tripura, 4th of April, 2026 : Political activity has reached a peak ahead of the Dharmanagar Assembly by-election scheduled for April 9. As the polling day draws closer, all political parties are intensifying efforts to strengthen their positions. In this backdrop, the Congress organized a massive election rally in support of its candidate Chayan Bhattacharya near Kali Dighi, in front of Punjab National Bank in Dharmanagar.

The rally, which began at 3 PM, witnessed a large turnout right from the start. Along with party workers and supporters, the presence of a significant number of general voters was also noticeable. Political observers believe that the Congress aimed to showcase its strength through this gathering while also attempting to sway public opinion ahead of the elections. Several prominent leaders attended the rally, including senior Tripura Congress leader Sudip Roy Barman, Pradesh Congress President Asish Saha, Tripura Congress in-charge and MP Saptagiri Shankar Ulaka, and former Odisha minister Niranjan Patnaik. Their presence added considerable significance to the event.Addressing the gathering, Congress leaders strongly criticized both the central and state governments. Key speaker Saptagiri Shankar Ulaka stated that the current government has failed to address basic issues faced by the people. He alleged rising unemployment and increasing prices of essential commodities, which, according to him, have gone beyond the reach of common citizens, while the government has failed to take effective action.

MLA Sudip Roy Barman, in his speech, said, “The people of Dharmanagar are seeking change. To bring that change, Congress must be supported.” He urged voters to elect Congress candidate Chayan Bhattacharya with a decisive mandate in the interest of development, transparent governance, and people-centric policies.Other speakers also highlighted the developmental work carried out during previous Congress governments and claimed that only the Congress can restore the pace of development in Dharmanagar. At the same time, they criticized various policies and actions of the BJP government and appealed to voters to cast their votes thoughtfully.

At the end of the rally, Congress leaders claimed that the massive turnout clearly indicates that the people of Dharmanagar are in favor of change. According to them, this support will be reflected in the results on April 9.

Overall, political analysts believe that this rally has further intensified the electoral battle in Dharmanagar. It now remains to be seen how much impact this campaign will have on the final verdict of the voters.
