Dharmanagar, Tripura, 24th of February, 2026 : A wave of criticism has emerged in Dharmanagar over a voter awareness painting drawn on the ground in front of Ardhendu Bhattacharya Smriti Bhavan ahead of National Voters’ Day on January 25.The awareness artwork, created at the main entrance of the premises, carries the messages “My Vote,” “Me Bharat Hoon,” and “My India.”

However, a section of local residents has objected to the placement of the painting, arguing that visitors are compelled to walk over the messages while entering the building, which they consider disrespectful. It is worth noting that Ardhendu Bhattacharya Smriti Bhavan regularly hosts social, cultural, and administrative events, drawing a steady flow of visitors every day. Since the artwork is positioned at the central entry point, there is virtually no alternative path for entry, forcing attendees to step over the slogans.Local residents have stated that while voter awareness is undoubtedly an important initiative, messages related to patriotism and democratic rights should be displayed in a manner that commands respect rather than being placed underfoot.

One elderly citizen remarked, “The administration’s effort to highlight the importance of National Voters’ Day is commendable. But writing phrases like ‘My India’ or ‘Me Bharat Hoon’ on the ground, where people have to walk over them, feels uncomfortable to us.”On the other hand, some residents believe the issue is being unnecessarily politicized. According to them, the artwork is simply a creative awareness campaign intended to attract attention and encourage voter participation. Critics, however, argue that greater sensitivity should have been exercised in selecting both the location and presentation of such messages. Discussions on the matter have already gained momentum on social media. As of now, no official response has been issued by the administration. Meanwhile, many citizens have urged authorities to exercise greater caution in choosing appropriate venues and methods for similar initiatives in the future.
