Sonamura, Tripura, 12th of December, 2025 : On the basis of secret information Sepahijala District Police, in joint operations with BSF, TSR battalions, Forest officials and other agencies, carried out a massive crackdown on illicit Ganja (cannabis) cultivation on Friday (12th December, 2025) from the morning 7:30am to 3:15pm at various locations of the district.
A large-scale destruction operation was conducted under Sonamura Police Station leading by Inspector Tapas Das, Officer-In-Charge of Sonamura Police Station covering Kamalnagar, Ghatigarh, Dhanirampur area forest land with active support from 81 BN BSF, 49 BN BSF, 5th BN TSR, 9th BN TSR, 7th BN TSR, 11BN TSR, Sonamura sub-division forest teams, 14th BN women TSR and other sister agencies. A total of 55 illicit Ganja plots were destroyed, uprooting approximately 6.7 lakh matured Ganja plants, which have been planted covering the area approx 95 acres in forest land.
Interacted with media Inspector Tapas Das, Officer in Charge of Sonamura Police Station gave details about this today. OC also stated that such operations against illegal contrabands would continue next day.
