Agartala, Tripura, 11th of September, 2025 : In a commendable effort to enhance farmers’ skills and ensure better crop production during the upcoming Rabi season, the Agriculture Department, as the Project Implementation Unit (PIU) under the Tripura Rural Economic Growth and Service Delivery Project (TRESP), is conducting robust field-level training and orientation sessions across districts. These initiatives have been receiving tremendous support and participation from farmers, farmer groups, and local trainers.

On 8th September 2025, a pre-cultivation training was conducted at Laljuri R.D. Block, where Krishi Sakhis and Block Level Master Trainers from Laljuri, Dasda, and Pencharthal blocks actively participated. The training session was graced by Mr. Ajanta Choudhury, BAC Chairman of Laljuri, Mr. Kabir Debbarma, Superintendent of Agriculture from Kanchanpur, and experts including Dr. S.P. Majumder and Dr. Dhrubajyoti Pal from TSA, among others. The event brought together over 56 participants who engaged enthusiastically in learning scientific crop cultivation methods.

The following morning, on 9th September, the team visited the crop fields of Nabami Producer Group under Dasda Block. The group had cultivated brinjal, but the fields were overgrown with weeds due to continuous rains and limited technical support. However, after learning about the visit, the farmers immediately began clearing their plots. The Agriculture Department provided necessary guidance to help improve crop management and yield.

Later that day, a similar training programme was conducted at Damcherra R.D. Block, attended by Mr. Dibyendu Chakma, Superintendent of Agriculture, along with officials from TRLM, TSA, and the agriculture department. Today, 10th September, the team conducted another session at Jampui Hill Block, with the participation of Mr. Biakchungnunga, BAC Chairman, Mr. Debabrata Roy, BDO, and Mr. Lalmonkima, Agriculture Officer.

These training sessions also benefited from the close involvement of Mr. Subrata Shib, Agri Specialist from TRESP’s Project Management Unit (PMU), who has been actively engaging with farmers at their doorsteps. His hands-on approach in addressing farmers’ needs, providing technical guidance, and ensuring the implementation of agriculture components of TRESP has been instrumental in meeting expectations on the ground. Farmers have expressed appreciation for his proactive involvement and personal attention to their challenges.

All the sessions included a technical presentation on modern cultivation methods aligned with the Block Development Plans, followed by interactive question-and-answer segments. The enthusiasm and curiosity of the participants were evident throughout the sessions, with many farmers raising queries and expressing a strong desire to implement best practices for improved farming outcomes.

As per the decision of the PIU (Agri-Horti), these training programmes are being conducted regularly in various TRESP blocks to equip Krishi Sakhis and Master Trainers with updated knowledge and skills before the Rabi season begins. These efforts reflect the Agriculture Department’s dedicated commitment to strengthening field-level agricultural practices, empowering farmers, and promoting sustainable farming solutions across Tripura.
