Fisheries Department Strengthens TRESP Implementation Through Enhanced Coordination Across ADC Blocks.

Agartala, Tripura, 2nd of August, 2025 : In a key step toward improving rural livelihoods through fisheries-based interventions, the Tripura Fisheries Department has demonstrated growing institutional ownership and enhanced interdepartmental coordination under the World Bank-funded Tripura Rural Economic Growth and Service Delivery Project (TRESP). A review-cum-outline meeting was held on 1st August 2025 at the Directorate of Fisheries conference hall in Agartala to assess the progress of ongoing fisheries-related activities and chart the next course of action. The meeting was chaired by Smt. Dipa Nayar, Secretary of the Fisheries Department, and initiated by Shri Santosh Das, Director of Fisheries.

The session brought together all Deputy Directors of Fisheries from the eight districts involved in the project, including Shri Bijoy Roy (West and Sepahijala), Shri Krishnahari Tripura (Gomati), Shri Jikendrajit Jamatia (South), Shri Bijay Ghosh (Khowai), Shri G.C. Sarkar (Dhalai), Shri N.G. Nowatia (North), and Shri Tanudra Debbarma (Unakoti). Also present were Shri Samar Roy, Nodal Officer (TRESP) from the Fisheries Department, Mr. Bishorjit Hijam, Fishery Specialist from the Project Management Unit (PMU), along with officers from other PIU, M&E, Finance & Procurement teams, TSA representatives, and district level TRESP staff.

The discussion focused on strengthening coordination mechanisms between the Fisheries Department and TRESP functionaries at both state and field levels. Particular emphasis was placed on clarifying the roles and responsibilities of departmental officers and project staff functioning under the Project Implementation Unit (PIU). The meeting also addressed the importance of effective communication, data-driven monitoring, and shared accountability in driving fisheries-related interventions across the 23 blocks covered under TRESP. Participants reviewed the progress made so far, discussed challenges encountered in the field, and identified actionable next steps to ensure smoother implementation moving forward.

Another key aspect of the meeting was the reaffirmation of the Technical Support Agency’s (TSA) role in providing continuous technical assistance and field-level guidance. Discussions highlighted the need for closer alignment between departmental programs and TRESP activities to create synergy and avoid duplication of efforts. Officials also emphasized the value of joint field visits and regular review mechanisms to promote transparency, streamline operations, and deliver impactful outcomes on the ground.
