Forest Staff Attacked In Dharmanagar : Allegation Of Deliberate Vehicle Ramming While Foiling Illegal Timber Smuggling.

Dharmanagar, Tripura, 10th of February, 2026 : A serious attack on on-duty forest officials has been reported from the Purba Huruya area of Dharmanagar in North Tripura. The incident allegedly occurred while the team was attempting to prevent illegal timber smuggling, with accusations that the smugglers deliberately rammed their vehicles into the officials’ government vehicle in an attempt to cause fatal harm.

According to sources in the Forest Department, at around 9:00 AM on Tuesday, a joint team from the Dharmanagar and Kadamtala Forest Ranges launched an operation in the Purba Huruya area based on confidential information. During the, the suspected smugglers attempted to flee with a vehicle loaded with illegally transported timber.As per the complaint, while trying to escape, the smugglers’ vehicle intentionally rammed into the forest officials’ Mahindra Bolero (No. TR-05- 0920). Soon after, another vehicle allegedly driven by one Nimr Ali (No. TR-05-F- 1707) approached from behind at high speed and forcefully hit the officials’ vehicle again. The alleged two-sided, planned attack left the forest department vehicle severely damaged and mangled.In the incident, forest worker Biplab Saha and driver Krishna Nama sustained serious injuries. Dharmanagar Beat Officer Md. Abdul Sattar and Kadamtala Beat Officer Abhijit Das also received minor injuries.

All the injured were admitted to Dharmanagar District Hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment.Following the incident, Dharmanagar Beat Officer Md. Abdul Sattar lodged a complaint at Dharmanagar Police Station against Nimr Ali on charges of attempt to murder. The complaint further mentions that there had been a previous FIR against the accused for an earlier attack on forest personnel.Police have begun an investigation into the matter. The Forest Department has described the incident as a grave attack on administrative action against illegal timber smuggling networks. Police officials stated that those involved will be identified and brought under the purview of the law at the earliest.
