Glaucoma Institute At L V Prasad Eye Institute.

Hyderabad, Telangana, 20th of February, 2026 : L V Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI) today inaugurated the Kalathur Venugopal Reddy Institute of Excellence in Glaucoma, at the Kallam Anji Reddy campus in Hyderabad, as part of the program of creating “Institutes of Excellence and Global Resource Centres” dealing with various major eye conditions. These Institutes act as “Global Resource Centres” for that speciality. Headed by Dr Sirisha Senthil, the institute will advance cutting-edge care, education, and research in glaucoma. Mrs Mallika Reddy Kalathur, wife of Late Mr Kalathur Venugopal Reddy, inaugurated the institute in the presence of family members, marking a pivotal milestone in LVPEI’s commitment to glaucoma care.

The Glaucoma Institute at LVPEI is named ‘Kalathur Venugopal Reddy Glaucoma Institute”. Mr Kalathur Venugopal Reddy, was a self-made entrepreneur whose life was defined by perseverance, integrity, and service to others. He lived with glaucoma and ultimately experienced the loss of sight associated with the disease. The Kalathur family, with Ms Kavitha Kalathur and Mr Ravi Kolli spearheading the efforts, has been supporting LVPEI for over a decade to create awareness and in the treatment of glaucoma. The institute honors both his personal journey with glaucoma and his enduring belief in the importance of care, access, and dignity for all.  With this institute, the Kalathur family recommits to the advancement of cutting-edge care, education, and research in glaucoma, in addition to building capacity for the care of glaucoma across India and other developing countries.

Dr Sirisha Senthil, a recent elect to the Chair of the Academia Ophthalmologica Internationalis (AOI) will head the Kalathur Venugopal Reddy Glaucoma Institute.

The Academia Ophthalmologica Internationalis is an elite international body in ophthalmology, comprising a limited membership of only 100 of the world’s most distinguished academicians. Election to the AOI is reserved for individuals who have demonstrated sustained excellence and leadership that has significantly advanced ophthalmic science and care across borders.

Dr Senthil’s work has shaped modern understanding of glaucomatous diseases, especially in the context of childhood glaucomas, secondary angle-closure glaucoma, and complex surgical management. As a clinician-scientist, she has been internationally recognized for her evidence-based approach, widely cited research, compassionate patient care, and dedication to mentoring the next generation of ophthalmologists and clinician‑scientists.

With this achievement, LVPEI becomes the only institute in India to have three of its faculty members represented in the AOI. Dr Senthil now joins the esteemed ranks of Dr Gullapalli N Rao and Dr Prashant Garg, who have previously been honored with AOI membership, with Dr N Rao serving as its President earlier. Together, their presence in this global academy reflects LVPEI’s unwavering commitment to excellence in clinical care, visionary leadership, and pathbreaking research that influences ophthalmology worldwide. Dr Sirisha Senthil’s appointment further strengthens LVPEI’s global visibility and reaffirms the institute’s continued contribution to shaping the future of eye care, research translation, and academic thought leadership.
