Dharmanagar, Tripura, 2nd of February, 2026 : A shocking case of alleged corruption has surfaced from Radhapur Gram Panchayat under the jubaraj Nagar Assembly constituency in North Tripura, where lakhs of rupees were reportedly spent on paper without any work being carried out on the ground. Serious allegations of large-scale financial irregularities have been raised in the name of road renovation under the MGNREGA scheme, triggering widespread public outrage. The epicenter of the allegations is the landless colony area of Ward No. 7 of Radhapur Gram Panchayat. According to official panchayat records, a total amount of ₹1,85,318 was sanctioned and shown as spent for earth -cutting work on a nearly 500- meter-long earthen road from the Anganwadi centre to the house of Manoranjan Nath, accounting for 538 labour days. Astonishingly, there is not even a trace of soil cutting on the road to date.Local residents allege that this crucial road has not been repaired for nearly one and a half decades. During the monsoon, knee-deep mud accumulates, causing immense hardship for children and guardians commuting to the Anganwadi centre. Ironically, a “work completed” signboard has been erected beside the dilapidated road, stating that the work was supposedly completed in July of the current financial year.

The incident has created a stir across the area. Agitated villagers allege that such blatant corruption would not have been possible without the backing of influential leaders of the ruling party. They claim that fake muster rolls were prepared to show false labour days and siphon off government funds.Residents further allege that while the panchayat authorities remain completely indifferent to development, they are extremely proactive when it comes to misappropriating funds. Despite repeated complaints, the road work never began. Instead, a signboard declaring the work as completed was put up in an attempt to mislead the public.Questions are also being raised about the role of the administration in this alleged “loot.” Villagers are demanding an immediate high-level inquiry, strict action against those responsible, and the actual commencement of the road construction work. Now, the big question remains—will the higher authorities of the administration investigate these serious allegations and bring the culprits to justice, or will the matter once again remain confined to files?
