Guwahati, Assam, 20th of July 2025 : As part of the celebrations marking the 75th year of the National Sample Survey, the National Statistics Office (NSO), Field Operations Division, Regional Office Guwahati, Government of India, organized the regional round of the nationwide quiz competition “Anvesha 2.0” at Gauhati University on Saturday (19th July, 2025).
Shri Mohondas Singh, Director, North Eastern Zone and Regional Head, RO Guwahati, in his keynote address highlighted the journey of the National Sample Survey since its inception in 1950, its evolution in methodology and scope, and its role in providing reliable, timely data for policy formulation. He noted that “Anvesha 2.0” commemorates this rich legacy and seeks to engage youth with topics related to the Indian economy, official statistics, the national statistical system, and key Government initiatives driven by data.
Students of Economics and Statistics and its related field of both under Graduation as well as Post Graduation courses from various colleges and universities participated the Quiz Competition. The first prize was awarded to Smt. Anwesha Bujarbaruah and Shri Ranjan Sobbor of Cotton University, who received Rs 10,000 in cash, medals, certificates. The second prize went to Shri Shaktiman Pegu and Shri Partha Protim Bharaluwa of Kumar Bhaskar Verma Sanskrit & Ancient Studies University with Rs 6,000, while the third prize of Rs 4,000 was won by Smt. Abhinanda Hazarika and Shri Diganta Sarmah of Cotton University. All participants were awarded certificates of participation. Cotton University who won the first prize was also awarded the trophy of prestigious “Anwesha 2.0” quiz competition for the year 2025.
The programme was graced by other distinguished guests including Prof. Kishore Kumar Das, Head, Department of Statistics, Gauhati University; Prof. Ratul Mahanta, Head, Department of Economics, Gauhati University; Dr. Bandana Sharma, Head, Department of Statistics, Cotton University; and Smt. Biduli Sharma, Assistant Professor, Department of Education, Gauhati University
The quiz competition was hosted by Shri Derajuddin Ahmed and Shri Raktim Talukdar and witnessed enthusiastic participation.
