Once Popular Tourist Spot Banabithi Eco Park Dilapidated Condition Due To Neglect And Apathy.

Khowai, Tripura, 27th of December, 2025 : Once a prominent destination in the State’s tourism spot, Banabithi Eco Park has today fallen into a dilapidated condition due to neglect and apathy. The administration’s extreme indifference towards Banabithi Eco Park in Khowai has become clearly evident.

On one hand, the State Government has been working continuously to take Tripura’s tourist destinations to new heights, and has even appointed cricket legend Sourav Ganguly as the brand ambassador of the State’s tourism department. On the other hand, Banabithi Eco Park in Khowai, which once held a prominent place in the State’s tourism sector, has now fallen into a dilapidated condition. No initiative is being taken by the administrative authorities for its maintenance.

Media from Khowai visited Banabithi Eco Park today, and the dilapidated condition of the park was clearly captured on camera. The boat jetty is in a poor state, while signboards are lying broken with no maintenance in sight. The area is overgrown with bushes, and there is no initiative for cleanliness or upkeep. Most surprisingly, there was a time when the park used to be crowded with visitors around the end of December, but such public turnout is no longer seen.

Despite being developed over a comparatively smaller area, this park could easily rank among the state’s ten major parks, competing with some of the largest ones. If the state tourism department so wishes, it is possible to make this tourist spot one of the top ten destinations in the state’s tourism sector.

Interacted with the local residents on this issue, they said that due to neglect and apathy, Banabithi Eco Park no longer attracts visitors as it once did. Now it remains to be seen what steps the state tourism department will take in the coming days to improve and revive Banabithi Park.
