New Delhi, Delhi, 30th of March 2026 : Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi will visit Gujarat on 31st March 2026 and will inaugurate various projects along with key rail infrastructure projects aimed at strengthening connectivity and boosting regional development.

In the rail sector, the Prime Minister will dedicate to the Nation the Kanalus–Jamnagar doubling project (28 km), which forms part of the larger Rajkot–Kanalus doubling project (111.20 km), as well as the quadrupling of the Gandhidham–Adipur section (10.69 km). These capacity augmentation projects will significantly enhance rail infrastructure in the region by increasing line capacity, reducing congestion on busy routes, and improving overall operational efficiency.

The doubling of the Kanalus–Jamnagar section will directly benefit key urban and industrial centres such as Jamnagar and Rajkot by enabling faster and more frequent train services, as well as allowing the operation of additional trains on the line. Jamnagar, a major hub for petroleum refining and brass industries, will witness improved freight evacuation, reducing logistics delays and enhancing industrial productivity. The project will also strengthen agro-based industries by enabling faster movement of farm produce and improving farmers’ access to markets. Rajkot, an important commercial centre, will benefit from improved passenger connectivity, facilitating smoother business travel and regional mobility. Additionally, enhanced rail access will boost tourism in Dwarka by improving overall accessibility and connectivity to the region.

Similarly, the quadrupling of the Gandhidham–Adipur section will have a transformative impact on the Kutch region, particularly around Gandhidham and Adipur. This corridor plays a crucial role in connecting ports and industrial zones. Enhanced capacity will ease congestion caused by heavy freight traffic, ensuring faster turnaround of goods trains and more reliable passenger services. This will strengthen port-led development and improve connectivity to inland markets.

The Prime Minister will also inaugurate the Himmatnagar–Khedbrahma gauge conversion project (54.83 km), which will significantly improve connectivity in the tribal and semi-urban regions of northern Gujarat. Areas around Himmatnagar and Khedbrahma will now be seamlessly connected to the broader rail network through broad gauge lines, enabling the introduction of faster trains and better services.

This gauge conversion will particularly benefit local populations by improving access to education, healthcare, and employment opportunities. Farmers and small traders in these regions will gain improved access to larger markets, allowing them to transport agricultural produce more efficiently and at lower cost, thereby increasing their income potential.

Further enhancing regional connectivity, the Prime Minister will flag off the Khedbrahma–Himmatnagar–Asarwa train service. This new service will provide direct rail connectivity to Ahmedabad for the residents of Sabarkantha, creating a vital transport link between remote areas and urban centres. It will enhance livelihood opportunities and strengthen the local economy, while also promoting tourism in the region. Additionally, the improved connectivity will facilitate better access to healthcare, education, and essential services. The train service will greatly benefit daily commuters, students, and patients travelling for medical treatment by offering a safe, affordable, and time-efficient travel option.

Collectively, these rail projects and services will have a multiplier effect on regional development by enhancing connectivity between industrial hubs, ports, agricultural regions, and urban centres. They will reduce travel time, improve reliability, boost trade and commerce, and contribute to inclusive growth across the state, reaffirming the Government’s commitment to building a modern and efficient railway network.
