Dharmanagar, Tripura, 21st of March, 2026 : Raising their voices against the growing menace of drug abuse, local residents finally took matters into their own hands. In Padmapur Choumuhani area under Dharmanagar subdivision, one youth was caught red-handed on charges of drug consumption and trafficking and was later handed over to the police by local residents along with members of the Padmapur Club.
According to local sources, for a long time, allegations had been circulating that a few youth were regularly involved in drug use and illegal sale from the residence of one Bijon Sharma near Padmapur Choumuhani. The issue had created concern among residents, but due to lack of concrete evidence, no action could be taken earlier. Acting on specific information received from a reliable source, the Padmapur Club authorities and local people jointly planned a raid.On Friday evening, locals suddenly stormed the house in question. Upon entering, they found three youth engaged in a drug session. During the operation, one of them was successfully detained, while the others managed to escape taking advantage of the darkness.
The incident was immediately reported to Dharmanagar Police Station. Police personnel quickly reached the spot and took the detained one youth into custody. Some empty containers and drug-related paraphernalia were also seized from the location.Residents alleged that illegal drug activities had been ongoing in the area for quite some time, leading many youths astray. They have demanded stricter surveillance and action from the administration.
The incident has created a stir in the locality and also stands as a strong example of community awareness and collective action against drug abuse in Padmapur.
