Khowai, Tripura, 27th of November, 2025 : A road was constructed through the paddy fields for the benefit of the farmers at Kamini Para area, Uttar Ramchandraghat under Khowai Block. This road was built on the initiative of the Uttar Ramchandraghat Panchayat so that farmers could easily transport their agricultural produce, including paddy and paddy saplings, for their farming needs.
But for the past 6–7 years, the Uttar Ramchandraghat Panchayat under Khowai RD Block has taken no initiative to repair this road. According to one farmer, every year during Durga Puja, funds for repair work under MGNREGA are sanctioned through the Panchayat, yet the work is never done.
A farmer from the area said that every year during the Puja season, when the work order is issued, the Panchayat officials do not carry out the repair work. Instead, they take the MGNREGA workers’ wages, while the remaining amount is taken by a local club. However, the farmers of the locality demand that if this road is properly repaired, all the farmers who cultivate in this area, will benefit greatly. Now it remains to be seen what steps the Uttar Ramchandraghat Panchayat takes to repair this road.
