Sabroom, Tripura, 10th of January, 2026 : The legal fraternity has been outraged in Sabroom, South Tripura, following allegations that a lawyer was abused in obscene language and threatened. In protest against the accused Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Abhijit Singh Yadav (IAS), the Sabroom Bar Association has called for an indefinite boycott of the SDM court starting Monday, January 12.

According to report, the incident took place on January 7 during the hearing of a case under Section 126 of the BNSS at the temporary courtroom in the Nagar Panchayat building. The complainant lawyer, Ratan Nath, stated that in his 22-year-long professional career, he has never faced such disgraceful behaviour.

The decision was taken at an emergency meeting of the Bar Association held on Friday (9th January, 2026). The association’s President, Sudhan Majumder, and Secretary, Apan Datta, clearly stated that a neutral investigation by the administration is essential to uphold the dignity of the judicial system. An FIR has already been lodged against the magistrate. The Bar Association has warned that if prompt and exemplary action is not taken, the scope of the agitation will be expanded further.
