Dharmanagar, Tripura, 30th of January, 2026 : In a major success against the drug trade, the Special Task Force (STF) of Tripura Police, along with the Border Security Force (BSF), carried out a joint operation in Dharmanagar of North Tripura district. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the joint team conducted a raid on Friday afternoon at the residence of notorious drug trafficker Hafiz Mia in the Yakubnagar area of Ward No. 2 under Bhaghyapur village, within the jurisdiction of Dharmanagar Police Station. During the operation, police carried out a prolonged search at Hafiz Mia’s house and recovered a large quantity of suspicious and incriminating items.

The seized materials included approximately ₹3 lakh in cash, a currency counting machine, a large number of empty polythene packets used for packaging narcotic substances, several notebooks containing detailed accounts related to the drug trade, and multiple sharp weapons.Based on the recovered items, police suspect that an organised drug racket had been operating from the house for a long time and that several other individuals may also be involved. However, during the raid, the prime accused Hafiz Mia managed to flee the area after sensing the presence of the police. According to police sources, multiple complaints and cases are already registered against him.Police have launched search operations in various possible locations to arrest the absconding accused, and surveillance has been intensified in the border areas as well.The mega operation was led by STF Superintendent of Police Shyamananda Sharma. He was accompanied by Dharmanagar Sub- Divisional Police Officer Jayanta Karmakar, Dharmanagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mina Debbarma, along with a large contingent of police personnel and BSF jawans.

The joint forces cordoned off the entire area before conducting the search.After the operation, SP Shyamananda Sharma stated that the administration is fully committed to making the state drug-free. He asserted that strict actions against drug traffickers who are pushing the youth towards destruction will continue in the future. He also appealed to the general public to share any information related to drug trafficking with the police.
