Dharmanagar, Tripura, 1st of April, 2026 : The nomination filing for the Tilthai Primary Agricultural Cooperative Society election in Dharmanagar subdivision turned the entire area politically charged on Wednesday. From early morning, a large gathering of party workers and supporters was seen around the nomination center. Acting on intelligence inputs about possible disturbances, local MLA Shailendra Chandra Nath coordinated with the administration to ensure tight security arrangements. The matter was also formally communicated to the District Superintendent of Police (SP).

Due to strict surveillance and a strong security presence, no untoward incidents were reported. The nomination process was completed peacefully, replacing initial tension with a festive atmosphere. Nomination papers were submitted between 12 PM and 2 PM, followed by scrutiny from 2 PM to 3 PM. This cooperative election, under the Jurajnagar Assembly constituency, has sparked heightened political activity. The election is scheduled for April 16, with both voting and counting set to take place on the same day.This year’s election clearly reflects a three-cornered contest.
The opposition CPI(M) has fielded five candidates—Anil Nath, Manjurani Nath, Jharna Nath, Amulya Nath, and Sunil Tripura. On the other hand, the BJP has also nominated five candidates. Additionally, three independent candidates, reportedly from rebel factions within the BJP, have entered the fray. All nominations were declared valid during the scrutiny process.
Speaking to the media during the nomination phase, MLA Shailendra Chandra Nath sharply criticized the previous managing committee. He stated, “The earlier committee failed to meet the expectations of farmers. We hope the new committee will prioritize farmers’ welfare in the coming days.”Overall, the Tilthai Cooperative Society election is shaping up to be a complex political contest. Attention now turns to the outcome on April 16.
