Agartala, Tripura, 21st of November, 2025 : In a remarkable display of progress under the Tripura Rural Economic Growth and Service Delivery Project (TRESP), Dr. K. Sasi Kumar, IFS, Secretary of the Tribal Welfare Department, along with Specialists from the TRESP PMU, visited Salswkang Producer Group (PG) in South Maharanipur under Mungiakami Block of Khowai district. The visit showcased the inspiring success of tribal women farmers who have achieved excellent results in bottle gourd cultivation.

Supported by hands-on training from the Cluster Coordinator (Agri-Horti) and TSA Field Experts, the PG members learned improved agronomic practices through Farmers Field School (FFS) sessions conducted at the crucial stages of crop growth. The women farmers expressed immense joy and pride as the State’s senior-most Tribal Welfare official interacted with them directly in their fields.

During his interaction, the Secretary spoke with a progressive woman farmer who confidently shared how TRESP has transformed their cultivation practices. She noted that the programme is focused, structured, and highly practical, enabling farmers to understand and apply scientific interventions. She highlighted learning advanced techniques like 1G, 2G, and 3G cuttings, which significantly improved the emergence of female flowers and enhanced fruiting, ensuring higher productivity per plant.

Dr. Kumar also visited the Piggery and Goatery PGs, where he observed that members are diligently following the technical protocols imparted by TRESP experts. The animals were found to be in good health, reflecting the positive results of systematic training and improved management.

Expressing satisfaction over the progress, the Secretary stated that TRESP is laying a strong foundation for transforming the rural tribal economy of Tripura. He emphasized that with the coordinated efforts of all stakeholders, the project is poised to bring significant and sustainable improvements in livelihoods across the state.

TRESP continues to empower tribal communities—especially women—through knowledge, technology, and capacity building, paving the way for a more prosperous and self-reliant rural Tripura.
