Agartala, Tripura, 25th of February, 2026 : Hon’ble Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha today said that the state has witnessed a drastic decline in the overall crime rate in 2025.

He said that stress is being given on how more technology can be used to increase the number of cannabis destruction drives.

While addressing the Tripura Police Week parade at AD Nagar, Agartala today, Dr. Saha said that every year Police Week is celebrated as a mark of service and achievement, and many police personnel have been martyred in the line of duty.

“This service is a service of sacrifice. Because of you, the public is now secure. People depend on the police. Police have played a key role in maintaining a healthy and peaceful environment in Tripura. Tripura Police are working very tirelessly. The law and order situation has significantly improved in the state and this was possible because of the Tripura Police. I want to congratulate all of you for this,” he said.

Dr. Saha said that the dress which police wear is an ornament.

“God has blessed you to wear this attire. Whenever you wear this dress, you are a different person. Today, Tripura Police have completed 150 years of service and is one of the oldest police forces in India. Tripura Police received the President’s Colour on 12th January 2012. The entire country is well aware of Tripura Police. Criminals have also changed their ways and are using various techniques, so we must also change and adopt technology, which is very challenging. I have received files to arrange training on how to combat new challenges. For that, you will work and we will do whatever is necessary,” he said.

Dr. Saha, who is also the Home Minister of the state, informed that the overall crime rate compared to the last 20 years has significantly declined in 2025.

“Compared to 2024, in 2025 the crime rate has decreased by 8.20%. A total of 4,033 cases were filed in 2024, while in 2025 it is 3,698. Property-related offences compared to 2024 have decreased by around 16% in 2025. Crimes against the body have declined by around 14.54% in 2025 compared to 2024. A state’s law and order situation can be assessed by looking at crimes against women. In CAW, there has been an 8.1% decline in 2025 compared to last year. We are giving special emphasis to crimes against women. A 24×7 women help desk has been opened in every police station. I regularly collect reports. In every district, all-women police stations have been opened, totalling nine,” he said.

Dr. Saha also informed that a special drive has been started to control traffic.

“We want to decrease the number of accident cases. A Zero Accident Programme has been undertaken and for that, 16 black spots and 84 accident-prone zones have been identified. Interceptor vehicles have been provided in every district. Around 8.82% decline in road accidents has been recorded in 2025 compared to 2024, and deaths due to accidents have also declined by 13% in 2025,” he said.

He also informed that the state government has declared zero tolerance against the drug menace.

“Nothing can be done in one day. NDPS cases have increased along with seizures. The number of cannabis destruction drives has also increased. Around 11.06% increase in NDPS cases has been recorded in 2025 compared to last year, while cannabis seizures increased by 14.4%, cough syrup seizures by 145.73%, and tablet seizures by 26.37%. We are using technology to destroy cannabis. I am in touch with the DGP and other officials to explore how we can use more technology to increase cannabis destruction. There has been a 94.71% increase in cannabis plant destruction and around 92.70% increase in seizure and destruction this year, with a market value worth Rs 1,641.89 crore,” said Dr. Saha.

He said that in cross-border crime, Tripura Police is working as the second line of defence.

“In 2025, around 576 illegal infiltrators and 102 touts were arrested. We will modernize the cyber police station to combat cybercrime. Directions have been given to strengthen it. So far in 2025, Tripura Police have organised 46 blood donation camps. Police are also engaged in philanthropic work. A total of 953 constables have been recruited, among them 318 women and 635 men. The recruitment process for 916 more police constables will start, and the state government has given permission for the recruitment of 218 Sub-Inspectors,” he said.

Amidst the other distinguished dignitaries there were DGP Anurag, Home Secretary Abhishek Singh and many other remained present in the programme.
