Ampi, Tripura, 14th of September 2025 : A significant two-day long workshop focusing on the social and cultural dynamics and explores social structure of the Kaipeng tribe was successfully organized here in Calvary Higher Secondary School under Ampi Nagar block in Gomati Tripura. The event was hosted by Sri Aurobindo General Degree College and sponsored by the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), New Delhi. It has brought together scholars, community leaders, and resource persons committed to deepening understanding of family structures, kinship ties, and social evolution in Kaipeng tribe from a sociological perspective. The workshop kicked off with a warm traditional welcome extended by the Central Young Kaipeng Association (CYKA). Guests were greeted on the dais with vibrant cultural showcase featuring traditional Risa dances and mementos that celebrated the tribe’s rich heritage.

The inaugural candle lighting ceremony was led by Hon’ble MLA Mr. Pathanlal Jamatia of the 41 Ampi Assembly symbolizing unity and the tribe’s dedication to constituency, social research and progress. The event featured insightful addresses from notable personalities. Dr. H Theresa Darlong, Project Director of ICSSR and Assistant Professor of Sociology Sri Aurobindo College, emphasized the importance of studying community structures to foster social understanding. Cultural performances by KRP (Kaipeng Raseilai Pawl) added vibrancy to the proceedings. Renowned academic and Principal of Sri Aurobindo General Degree College, Dr. Dipankar Chakraborty shared valuable views on social cohesion and cultural preservation of a tribe.
Community leaders such as Mr. Lalthanga Kaipeng, President of the Central Young Kaipeng Association, and Rev. GB Kaipeng also shared their perspectives on maintaining cultural identity amidst social changes. Other distinguished speakers included Dr. Surojit Sen Gupta (MBBC Department of Sociology), Dr. Nirmalya Karmakar (D DO, Sri Aurobindo College), Ms. Mery Rupini (Head of the Department of English, Sri Aurobindo College), Shri Lokhimukta Kaipeng (Kaipeng Society), and Mrs. Lalhmingdang i (Headmistress, Calvary HS School, Tuidu). ). The program also featured a speech by Mr. Pathanlal Jamatia, further bridging academic and grassroots perspectives. The workshop acknowledged the invaluable contributions of resource persons including Pu Daniel Kaipeng, Pu Dhana Choron Kaipeng, Pu Awmthei Naran Kaipeng, Tv. Vanlaltana Kaipeng, Pu Daniel Kaipeng (PGT), and Pu Lalremruata Kaipeng. Their insights greatly enriched the discussion, providing a comprehensive understanding of the community’s social fabric.
