New Delhi, Delhi, 24th of February, 2026 : The Department of Posts organised a grand Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) Sammelan at the Kartik Mela Ground, Ujjain, in the distinguished presence of Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, Union Minister of Communications and DoNER and Shri Mohan Yadav, ChiefMinister of Madhya Pradesh, marking a significant occasion to recognise and celebrate the invaluable contribution of Gramin Dak Sevaks towards strengthening last-mile service delivery in rural India. More than 7,000 Gramin Dak Sevaks from across the State participated in the Sammelan.

The Sammelan was organised to honour the dedication and services of Gramin Dak Sevaks, who play a pivotal role in strengthening communication, postal, banking and insurance services across rural and remote areas. Addressing the gathering, Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia described the Gramin Dak Sevaks as members of his extended family and, invoking the Prime Minister’s mantra of Reform, Perform and Transform, called for ushering in a new wave of transformation in the Department of Posts.

Highlighting the grassroots connect of Gramin Dak Sevaks, the Union Minister stated that a Gramin Dak Sevak knows every household and understands the pulse of the community. He lauded their deep engagement with citizens and recognised them as the true ambassadors of last-mile service delivery.

During the Sammelan, Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia felicitated 10 Gramin Dak Sevaks for their outstanding contribution and exemplary performance in strengthening last-mile postal and financial service delivery in rural areas. The recognitions highlighted their dedication, commitment and role as the backbone of India Post’s rural network.

In his address, the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Shri Mohan Yadav, remarked that without the Department of Posts, it would not have been possible for people to share their joys and sorrows with one another across distances. Drawing an analogy with Lord Hanuman, he stated that the strength and potential of the Department of Posts have been awakened under the leadership of the Hon’ble Minister Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia.
The programme was also attended by Ms. Savitri Thakur, Union Minister of State for Women and Child Development; Shri Tulsiram Silawat, Minister of Water Resources, Government of Madhya Pradesh, Shri Balyogi Umesh Nath Ji Maharaj, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha); Shri Anil Firojiya, Member of Parliament, Ujjain, Shri Shankar Lalwani, Member of Parliament, Indore; along with Shri Suvendu Kumar Swain Member, Postal Services Board and Shri Vineet Mathur, Chief Postmaster General, Madhya Pradesh Circle and other senior officers from the Department of Posts.
The Sammelan marks an important step towards strengthening the morale of Gramin Dak Sevaks and further enhancing the effectiveness of postal services in rural India, reaffirming the Government’s commitment to empowering India Post as a key pillar of inclusive growth and citizen-centric service delivery.
