Dharmanagar, Tripura, 13th of March, 2026 : The National Commission for Women, a “Mahila Jansunwai” (Women’s Public Hearing) programme was held on Friday at the Dharmanagar Circuit House in North Tripura district, organized by the Tripura State Commission for Women. The programme in North Tripura was conducted after similar hearings were organized across seven districts of the state.
The event was attended by the Chairperson of the Tripura Women’s Commission, Jharna Debbarma, as the chief guest. In her presence, women from different areas presented their grievances and lodged complaints.Officials present at the hearing included the Additional District Magistrate of North Tripura, the Child Development Project Officers (CDPO) of Dharmanagar and Panisagar, the Officer-in-Charge of Dharmanagar Women Police Station, the DSP of the Crime Branch, along with other administrative officials. They listened to the complainants and assured that necessary steps would be taken to resolve the issues promptly.
According to the Women’s Commission, a total of five previously filed complaints were heard during the programme. In addition, new complaints were also accepted. The newly submitted complaints will be reviewed in the next Mahila Jansunwai programme scheduled for the coming month, and appropriate action will be taken.Chairperson Jharna Debbarma stated that such public hearing programmes will now be organized every month in each district of the state. She added that these initiatives are aimed at protecting women’s rights and ensuring justice for them. Through these programmes, ordinary citizens and victims of harassment or oppression can directly submit complaints to the Commission, making it easier to coordinate with the administration for faster resolution.Women from different parts of the district participated in the programme and presented their problems and grievances directly before the Commission.
