Workshop Cum Training Over Promoting Gender Equity Launched.

Amarpur, Tripura, 2nd of January 2026 : With the initiative of history department of Government Degree College of Khumulwng a two day long workshop-cum-training programme on promoting gender equity, preventing sexual harassment and advancing women’s rights under PM-USHA has been initiated here in government degree college in  Khumulwng, West Tripura today.

The programme was presided over by Dr. Bhupendra Debbarma, principal-in-charge of the college. The session commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, symbolising knowledge and enlightenment.

Mr. Pradip Debbarma, asst. professor and the programme coordinator has delivered the welcome address and briefed the gathering about the objectives of the workshop & training. This was followed by the keynote address delivered by Dr. Khumtoya Debbarma, asst. professor, department of law, Manipur University, who spoke in detail on issues related to gender equity, prevention of sexual harassment, and the importance of legal awareness.

The session further included an insightful lecture by Mr. Swapan Debbarma, asst. professor, department of law, Tripura Government Law College, Agartala, who elaborated on gender-related challenges and the role of institutions in ensuring a safe and inclusive favourable environment.

The chief guest, Smt. Mina Kumari Debbarma, additional superintendent of police, crime branch, Tripura police, delivered a special address highlighting women’s rights, legal safeguards, and the role of law enforcement in protecting dignity and justice. In his presidential Address, Dr. Bhupendra Debbarma emphasized the importance of creating an inclusive, safe, and respectful academic environment. He highlighted that educational institutions play a crucial role in shaping values, attitudes, and responsible citizenship. He stressed that gender equity and the prevention of sexual harassment are not merely legal obligations but moral responsibilities of every individual. He further urged students and faculty members to remain aware of their rights and duties, promote mutual respect, and actively contribute to building a culture of dignity, equality, and zero tolerance towards discrimination and harassment.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Sri Satyajit Roy, senior faculty, department of history, Govt. Degree College Khumulwng followed by the national anthem.
