100th Tansen Sangeet Samaroh Establishes Guinness World Record.

Silchar, 26th of December, 2024 : The 100th Tansen Sangeet Samaroh, a grand celebration of Hindustani classical music, etched its name in history today by creating a Guinness World Record for the Largest Hindustani Classical Band with 546 musicians.

Held at the iconic Gwalior Fort, the event witnessed an awe-inspiring performance by the musicians, who played three of Tansen’s iconic ragas: Rag Malhar, Rag Mia kiTodi and Rag Darbari.

Organised by the Cultural Department of Madhya Pradesh government, this milestone event also celebrated Gwalior’s recent recognition as a UNESCO City of Music, highlighting its global significance in the world of classical music.

The record-setting performance was presided over by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, and attended by dignitaries, music lovers and international guests. The performance left the audience mesmerised. The record-setting performance was meticulously executed by Guinness World Record consultant NischalBarot, marking his 53rd successful Guinness record execution.

Commenting on the achievement, NischalBarot said, “This Guinness World Record reflects the enduring spirit of Indian classical music and flawless teamwork. The incredible talent of the participating musicians and the Madhya Pradesh government’s vision has truly put Gwalior on the world map as a hub for cultural and musical excellence. I am deeply honoured to be part of such a historic event.”

The TansenSamaroh, a festival that has been celebrated for the last 99 years, is a tribute to the legendary musician Tansen, whose contributions to Hindustani classical music remain unparalleled. Today’s achievement not only honoured his legacy but also brought global attention to the beauty and depth of Indian classical music.

A spokesperson for the Cultural Department hailed the event as a moment of pride for the nation, saying, “This achievement reflects not only the artistic excellence of our musicians but also their unity in celebrating Tansen’s timeless legacy. It is a proud day for Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh and the entire nation, and will be remembered in the annals of India’s cultural history.”

The celebration concluded with resounding applause from the participants and music aficionados, leaving an indelible mark on the centenary of the TansenSangeetSamaroh.
