Dharmanagar, Tripura, 27th of February, 2026 : A solemn and meaningful district-level ‘Viksit Bharat Yuva Sansad 2026’ was held on Friday in Dharmanagar, North Tripura district. The programme was organized by Dharmanagar Government Degree College under the aegis of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, with participation from students of various educational institutions across the district.The event commenced at 11:00 AM on the college campus with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp. Guests were warmly welcomed with floral bouquets and traditional scarves. This year’s theme was “50 Years of the Emergency: Lessons for Indian Democracy.

”The chief guest and inaugurator of the programme was noted youth leader and social worker Molina Debnath. The session was presided over by the Principal of the college, Dr. Suman Adhikari. State and district-level NSS officials, along with distinguished academicians, were also present.In their inaugural addresses, the speakers stated that the Emergency declared in 1975 remains a significant and instructive chapter in India’s democratic history. They emphasized the political and social context of the period, the question of press freedom, the protection of human rights, and the stability of the constitutional framework as key areas from which the present generation must draw lessons. The speakers further noted that organizing such Youth Parliaments plays a vital role in raising awareness among young people about constitutional rights and duties.Following the inaugural session, an oratory competition was held.
Participating students delivered analytical and well-argued speeches on the impact of the Emergency, the role of the media, civil liberties, and democratic values.The panel of judges evaluated the participants based on the depth of content, presentation style, and factual analysis. In the competition, Sanchita Nath secured first place, Prasanta Dutta second, Krish De third, Dhruva Das fourth, and Sagar Sharma fifth. The winners were awarded certificates and mementos.The day-long programme concluded with a felicitation of the judges and a formal vote of thanks. The organizing committee stated that such initiatives significantly contribute to fostering democratic consciousness, leadership qualities, and social responsibility among the youth.
