55 BSF Personnel Conferred With Medals On Independence Day- 2023.

On the occasion of Independence Day 2023, 55 BSF personnel have been conferred with 04 Police Medals for Gallantry, 05 President’s Police Medals for Distinguished Service and 46 Police Medals for Meritorious service.

(I) POLICE MEDAL FOR GALLANTRY (PMG) – 04

Regt No. 183102487 SI (GD) ANURAG RANJAN

No. 183102487 SI (GD) Anurag Ranjan, displayed exemplary and outstanding leadership qualities, took bold and daring decision and led the Patrolling cum Ambush Party from the front to eliminate the dreaded terrorist who had tried to infiltrate into the Indian Territory. The SO exhibited valour and outstanding professional acumenship standing shoulder to shoulder with his team in facing the bullets of the terrorists. SI Anurag Ranjan without caring for his personal safety and showing exemplary courage, dedication, comradeship made several gallant attempts in the line of fire to extricate injured Ct Sudip Sarkar to safer position with the intent of saving the valuable life of his colleague. SI Anurag Ranjan in the midst of heavy volume of fire from terrorists and Enemy FDLs, handled the operation successfully and foiled the infiltration bid. During encounter, which lasted for more than 04 hours, he continuously motivated the party to fire on infiltrators in extreme inhospitable conditions i.e. height apprx. 13500 feet in sub-zero temperature and chilling wind. He led the team with high degree of professionalism, bravery and exemplary courage. In recognition of displaying his high degree of leadership qualities, devotion, dedication and courage which resulted in successfully averting infiltration bid and neutralized one terrorist with recovery of huge cache of Arms & Amns, SI Anurag Ranjan has been awarded Police Medal for Gallantry.

Regt No. 954035701 HC (GD) ABDUL HAMID RATHER

No. 954035701 HC (GD) Abdul Hamid Rather has displayed an outstanding act of bravery, valour, professionalism and alertness. He was first to notice the suspicious movement of terrorist on the northern side of the ridge in dark pitch night. He immediately informed the party Comdr and took tactical position on available ground and fired towards terrorist. Meanwhile in response to own firing terrorists retaliated with heavy volume of fire towards own party causing him splinter injury in right leg. Inspite of being injured, HC Abdul Hamid alongwith SI Anurag Ranjan continued heavy volume of fire on the terrorists. In ensuing fierce gun battle, without caring for his personal safety and life crawled towards Ct Sudip Sarkar and made gallant attempt to extricate him at safe place. HC Abdul Hamid has shown outstanding act of valour, dedication and devotion toward the call of duty without caring for his personal safety. He took on the terrorist, averted an infiltration bid and succeeded in neutralizing the terrorist with recovery of huge cache to Arms and Amn. In recognition to his intrepid bravery, gallant action while upholding the highest traditions of the Force he has been awarded with Police Medal of Gallantry.

Regt No.121014102 CT (GD) AMARJEET SINGH & REGT NO. 130528537 CT (GD) NAVJOT SINGH

On intervening night of 07/08 Nov’ 2020, MMG Det deployed at Tower III was kept on high alert to provide immediate fire support to Ambush cum Patrolling party. Immediately  after  establishing  contact  with  infiltrators,  SI  Anurag  Ranjan  asked  for  fire support from MMG Dett and reinforcement of addition troops from Tower III post. No. 121014102 CT Amarjeet Singh along with No. 130528537 CT Navjot Singh immediately rushed towards place of incident. Despite heavy volume of effective fire by terrorists and enemy FDLs, No. 121014102 CT Amarjeet Singh & No.130528537 CT Navjot Singh continued moving towards encounter site. They reached place of incident crawling, covering distance of more than 800 mtrs in highly rugged mountainous terrain in pitch dark night. They without caring for their personal safety and life occupied location tactically and brought heavy volume of fire on terrorist from close range. They provided covering fire to own party thereby facilitating their movement in extricating CT Sudip Sarkar to safer place. Their fire prevented infiltrators approaching close to AIOS.  In recognition of their exemplary courage, dedication, devotion and highest degree of professionalism, CT Amarjeet Singh and Ct Navjot Singh have been awarded with Police Medal of Gallantry.
