59th Engineers Day, 2026 Organized PWD & The Institution of Engineers (India).

Agartala, Tripura, 16th of September, 2026 : With the jointly initiative of Public Works Department (PWD) and the Institution of Engineers (India) celebration ceremony of 59th  Engineers Day,2026 organized  at Pragna Bhavan, Agartala, Tripura on Tuesday (15th September, 2026).

In the presence of many distinguished dignitaries Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha inaugurated the event by lighting the ceremonial Lamp.

The Chief Minister and other dignitaries paid floral tributes to the portrait of M. Visvesvaraya and paid their respects to him.

Addressing at the celebration ceremony of 59th  Engineers Day Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said that  engineers have a crucial role to play in realising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a developed India by 2047. He said engineers and engineering colleges must come forward with greater responsibility to implement the Prime Minister’s ideas and plans and contribute to the development of both the country and Tripura.

The Chief Minister said that M. Visvesvaraya played a significant role in shaping modern India. He recalled various milestones of Visvesvaraya’s illustrious professional life and highlighted his lasting contributions to the field of engineering and national development.

“The State Government has also placed special emphasis on infrastructure development to realise the dream of building a developed India. He noted that, due to the state’s geographical and climatic conditions, the four winter months provide an ideal period for carrying out various development activities. This period must be utilised effectively for the implementation of different projects. Modern methods and advanced technologies should be adopted wherever necessary”, Chief Minister said.

Dr. Saha said that various innovations by engineers play an important role in improving the quality of life of people in the state as well as across the country. He also referred to several modern engineering marvels, including the Chenab Rail Bridge, which have earned appreciation worldwide.

Highlighting the occasion, Chief Minister remarked that important role being played by engineers in transforming the state’s infrastructure. He said that proper planning by engineers and effective implementation of those plans have brought about significant changes and improvements in the state’s infrastructure. He also mentioned the introduction of the e-Office system from the Assembly level down to the Panchayat level, the increased use of solar power, and the construction of a ring road under the Bharatmala project. The Chief Minister said that engineers are the backbone of India’s development.

At the programme, the Chief Minister presented awards and felicitations to five professors for being selected as the Best Faculty of Engineering Colleges. Five engineers were also honoured as the Best Engineers.

Engineer Chinmoy Debnath and Shibir Debbarma were conferred the Engineer of the Year 2026 award at the programme. The Chief Minister presented the awards and certificates of honour to them.

The Chief Minister also announced that the site allotted for the Institute of Engineers’ office on VIP Road would be named IEI Land, while the bus stand premises to the Housing Board would be named IEI Bus Stand.

The Chief Minister also visited a blood donation camp organised on the occasion of Engineers’ Day and encouraged the blood donors.

Welcome address was delivered by the Chief Engineer of the PWD, Anup Kumar Das. PWD Secretary Kiran Gitte and Rural Development Department Secretary Abhishek Singh. Director of IIT Kharagpur, Dr. Suman Chakraborty, also addressed the gathering.

Amidst the distinguished dignitaries there were  PWD Joint Secretary Rajib Pal was present at the programme. The vote of thanks was delivered by Parmananda Sarkar Banerjee, Chairman of the Tripura State Centre of the Institution of Engineers (India).
