Agartala, Tripura, 26th of January, 2026 : With the initiative of State Government of Tripura 77th Republic Day celebration programme has been conducted at Assam Rifles Ground, Agartala, Tripura on Monday (26th January, 2026).

In the presence of many participants the Hon’ble Governor of Tripura Indra Sena Reddy Nallu unfurled the National Flag. BSF, CRPF, Assam Rifles, TSR, Women TSR battalion, Tripura Police, Traffic Police, Forest Guards also participated in the parade at the main event of 76th Republic Day organized at Assam Rifles ground.

In a gesture that resonated deeply with the cultural sentiments of the people, the Governor of Tripura, Shri Indra Sena Reddy Nallu, today delivered his maiden Republic Day address entirely in the Bengali language. In the 77th Republic Day State-level ceremony held at the Assam Rifles Ground in Agartala, witnessed an unprecedented and warmly received, departure from the Programme.

The Governor, whose mother tongue is Telugu, took the stage and addressed the assembled dignitaries, civil service officers, security personnel, students, and the public in fluent Bengali. This thoughtful initiative was not merely a linguistic choice but a powerful symbol of respect and integration.

Eyewitnesses at the event described a palpable wave of surprise and delight that swept through the gathering. Senior state officials, including the Chief Minister, Prof. Dr. Manik Saha, his cabinet ministers, and top-ranking civil service officers, were notably astonished and visibly impressed by the Governor’s command and delivery in the local language. Their reaction underscored the significance of the gesture, moving beyond formal protocol to genuine appreciation.

The heartiest response, however, came from the public and student sections. For many, hearing the constitutional head of the state address them in their own vernacular was a moment of great pride and connection. It was perceived as a bridge between the Raj Bhavan and the common citizen, fostering a sense of inclusivity and cultural recognition. Spontaneous applause and appreciation were heard from the crowd, highlighting the emotional impact of the act.

Following the ceremony, Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha formally congratulated Governor Nallu for his initiative. In his remarks, the CM likely emphasized how this gesture honors the linguistic heritage of Tripura, where Bengali is the official language and spoken by the vast majority. It is seen as a step that strengthens the unity and cultural fabric of the state.

Amidst the distinguished dignitaries there were Hon’ble MP Rajib Bhattacharjee, Secretary of Health and Family Welfare Department Kiran Gitte, senior officials of the state police and administration, and senior officers of the military and paramilitary forces and many other distinguished dignitaries were present in the ceremony.
