Agartala, Tripura, 22nd of October, 2026 : Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Wednesday (21st October, 2026) paid tribute to all police personnel on Police Commemoration Day who made the supreme sacrifice in the service of the Nation and its people at Manoranjan Debbarma Memorial Stadium, A.D. Nagar, Agartala. Other senior police officers also paid tribute to the martyrs.
Addressing at the event Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said that the contribution of the police force to ensuring public safety and maintaining law and order is undeniable. Their efficiency and dedication serve as an inspiration to others. The unity, commitment, courage and sense of responsibility of police personnel are the core strengths of the force.
“On October 21, 1959, ten police personnel were martyred while fighting Chinese troops in Ladakh. Police Commemoration Day has been observed since 1960 to honour their supreme sacrifice.”, Chief Minister Dr. Saha said.
Highlighting the sacrifices of the police and security forces, the Chief Minister stated that 154 personnel had laid down their lives in the line of duty between September 1, 2023, and August 2026. While honouring the martyrs, he emphasized that the police must fulfil their duties with dedication and a strong sense of public responsibility. He added that maintaining good relations with the people, understanding their difficulties and responding to their concerns with empathy are equally important aspects of policing.
The Chief Minister emphasized the need for the police force to strengthen its capabilities to effectively combat emerging challenges such as cybercrime, drug trafficking, and offences against women and children. He said the state government is focusing on police modernization through the adoption of advanced technologies to improve efficiency and operational capabilities. He added that the government’s primary objective is to ensure a safe, peaceful and secure environment for all citizens.
Amidst the distinguished dignitaries there were Chief Secretary J. K. Sinha, Tripura Director General of Police G. S. Rao and other senior officials of the police administration were also present at the programme.
