Paddy Procurement Programme Under KMS Inaugurated In Dharmanagar.

Dharmanagar, Tripura, 29th of January, 2026 : Farmers are the true food providers of the nation. Through their hard work and dedication, food reaches every household, and their contribution plays a vital role in building a self-reliant India. Agriculture remains the backbone of the country’s economy, and farmers continue to ensure national food security. With this objective, the Government of Tripura has once again taken a significant step towards safeguarding farmers’ interests. On the occasion of the first harvest of the Kharif season 2025–26, the official inauguration of the paddy procurement programme from farmers at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) under the Kharif Marketing Season (KMS) was held on Wednesday (28th January, 2026) at the Vivekananda Sardar Centenary Hall in Dharmanagar, North Tripura district. The programme was organised by the Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, with support from the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare.The programme was formally inaugurated by the Hon’ble Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Minister Sushanta Chowdhury.

Addressing the gathering, the minister stated that the state government is committed to improving the socio-economic condition of farmers and ensuring financial security for agricultural households. He said that procurement of paddy at the Minimum Support Price is being carried out on a priority basis so that farmers receive fair value for their produce and are not forced to depend on middlemen.The minister further informed that during the current Kharif season, the government has fixed a target of procuring 18,000 metric tonnes of paddy at an MSP of Rs 2,369 per quintal across the state. As part of this initiative, 52 paddy procurement centres will be made operational in a phased manner to ensure easy access for farmers and smooth implementation of the programme. He added that prompt payment, transparency in procurement and proper grievance redressal mechanisms have been put in place for the benefit of farmers.

Among the dignitaries present at the programme were Aparna Nath, Sabhadhipati of North Tripura Zilla Parishad; Chandni Chandran, District Magistrate of North Tripura; Mitali Rani Das (Sen), Chairperson of Dharmanagar Municipal Council; Shailendra Chandra Nath, MLA of jubarajnagar; Jadav Lal Nath, MLA of Bagbassa; and Tinku Sharma, Chairperson of Kalachhara Panchayat Samiti.Noted social worker Kajal Das of North Tripura, along with officials from various levels of the administration, and officers and staff of the Agriculture Department and Food Department, were also present.

The programme was presided over by social worker Kajal Das.Speaking on the occasion, the dignitaries emphasised that the paddy procurement process would be carried out with complete transparency and strict adherence to timelines. They assured that sufficient procurement centres, timely disbursement of payments and effective monitoring would be ensured to make the programme farmer-friendly. The speakers expressed hope that the initiative would further strengthen the agricultural system of the state and boost farmers’ confidence.At the end of the programme, detailed information regarding the paddy procurement process was shared with farmers. The administration assured full cooperation to ensure the smooth and successful implementation of the procurement drive across the district and the state.
