Amarpur, Tripura, 18th of February 2026 : With the initiative of Department of Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs in collaboration with Department of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare Paddy Procurement Program has been organized here in Ampi Nagar gallery ground, Amarpur, Gomati Tripura today. On this occasion a large number of local farmers with their paddy loaded vehicles and concerned departmental officials have assembled here in the programme venue. In presence of many distinguished dignitaries Ampi block BAC chairman Sindhu Chandra Jamatia has inaugurated the programme. As per the report, food department paddy procurement is conducted primarily to ensure farmers receive a guaranteed Minimum Support Price (MSP), preventing distress sales to middlemen. It secures food supply for public distribution, stabilizes market prices, and strengthens the rural, agricultural economy.

By purchasing at MSP, the government protects farmers from market price fluctuations and guarantees a fair return on their, often leading to increased cultivation preventing exploitation. It eliminates middlemen who often buy paddy at low prices. Procured paddy helps maintain a buffer stock for national food security and stabilizes food prices in the market.

The initiative aims to boost the income of farmers and support the overall rural economy. It ensures a steady supply of food grains for distribution to the public.

The process generally involves registering farmers, verifying quality through parameters like moisture content, and ensuring direct payment to farmers. According the official report, 100 M.T paddy has been purchased from 55 farmers under Ampi Nagar block. After availing good price the local farmers were found cheerful. Amidst the other distinguished participants there were Hira Manik Tripura, branch officer of the food dept. Nibash Debbarma, SA, Ampi, Ashim Kalai, Krishi Morcha president, Sukumar Shill, president, Srikanta Das, Agri assist. and many others remained present in the programme.
