Dharmanagar, Tripura, 28th of February, 2026 : Three persons were seriously injured in a horrific road accident that took place on Friday evening at Panitilla along the Assam–Agartala National Highway under Panisagar Police Station.According to police and local sources, a twelve-wheeler cement-laden lorry collided head-on with an Alto car coming from the opposite direction. The lorry reportedly lost control while attempting to flee after hitting the car and eventually overturned a short distance away.The injured passengers were residents of Baithakhali Chankhira Basti under Patharkandi Police Station in Karimganj district of neighboring Assam. They were returning home after visiting Khowai and Kamalpur in Tripura when the accident occurred near Panitilla.In the collision, the front portion of the Alto car was completely mangled. The driver, Asab Uddin (45), and the front-seat passenger, Mohammad Ali alias Chan Uddin (45), sustained serious injuries. Another passenger, Kamal Uddin (34), who was seated in the back, suffered injuries to his chest and back but is reported to be stable, hospital sources said.

Immediately after the accident, local residents rushed to the spot and rescued the injured persons, handing them over to personnel of the Fire and Emergency Services. The victims were first taken to Panisagar Sub-Divisional Hospital and later referred to Dharmanagar District Hospital as their condition deteriorated. Meanwhile, the lorry driver fled the scene after the vehicle overturned. Police from Panisagar Police Station reached the spot soon after receiving information and have initiated an investigation. A case has been registered, and both damaged vehicles have been taken into police custody. The exact cause of the accident is under investigation.
