Dharmanagar, Tripura, 7th of March, 2026 : Local residents staged a road blockade on the Dharmanagar–Kadamtala road on Friday evening, protesting against the increasing menace of overloaded dumpers carrying stones. Frustrated by the deteriorating condition of the road and the constant movement of heavy vehicles, the residents finally took to the streets to express their anger.According to local sources, dumpers carrying excessive loads of stones pass through the road regularly. As a result, large potholes have developed in several sections, and in some places the road surface has peeled off, making it almost unfit for vehicular movement.

Residents said that the unrestricted movement of these dumpers, especially from evening till late night, has made daily life extremely difficult for the local population. They alleged that the excessive load carried by these vehicles is rapidly damaging the road. Moreover, the high speed of these heavy vehicles has created a constant risk of accidents.Locals further claimed that although the issue has been brought to the attention of the administration several times, no effective measures have been taken so far.It is worth mentioning that residents had earlier expressed anger over the poor condition of the Dharmanagar–Kadamtala road. At that time, the authorities had assured that the road would be repaired, but according to locals, there has been little change in reality. As a result, agitated residents gathered on Friday and blocked the road to press for their demands. Some locals alleged that the present situation has arisen due to the negligence of the Public Works Department (PWD). They claimed that despite the worsening condition of the road, the concerned department has shown little initiative. The Dharmanagar–Kadamtala road is one of the most important communication routes in North Tripura district. A significant portion of the state maintains connectivity with Assam through this road, and thousands of vehicles pass through it every day. However, due to the poor condition of the road, ordinary passengers as well as traders are facing severe difficulties.
The protesters demanded immediate control over the movement of overloaded stone-laden dumpers on the road. They also urged the authorities to arrange an alternative route for heavy dumpers so that normal traffic and public movement are not affected. In addition, the residents demanded urgent repair of the road and regular monitoring of heavy vehicles. They warned that if the administration fails to take prompt action, they will be compelled to launch a larger protest in the future.
Now, local residents are waiting to see what steps the administration will take following this protest.
