Review Meeting Held In Dharmanagar Ahead Of By-Election Date Announcement.

Dharmanagar, Tripura, 12th of March, 2026 : Ahead of the possible by-election to the 56-Dharmanagar Assembly Constituency in North Tripura, a high-level delegation from the Election Commission of India arrived in Dharmanagar to review the election preparedness. Although the date of the by-election has not yet been officially announced, administrative sources said the visit was aimed at assessing the ground-level arrangements for the electoral process.The delegation, led by Chief Secretary N. T. Bhutia and Secretary Santosh Kumar Dubey, held an important review meeting with administrative and police officials in Dharmanagar on Thursday. Officials present at the meeting included the District Election Officer (DEO) of North Tripura, the Superintendent of Police, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Dharmanagar, and other officers associated with conducting elections.

During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on overall preparations for the upcoming by-election, including law-and-order arrangements, security deployment, the condition of polling stations, and the storage and management of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) units. Preparations of election personnel were also reviewed.According to administrative sources, the delegation paid special attention to the infrastructure of polling stations, identification of sensitive and highly sensitive booths, planning for security force deployment, and ensuring necessary facilities for voters. Emphasis was also placed on maintaining close coordination between the administration and the police to ensure a free, fair, and peaceful election.

Discussions were also held on the updated status of the electoral roll, storage of election materials, and readiness of various departments for polling day. The delegation reportedly collected detailed reports on several important aspects of election management in the district.It may be noted that political activities in the constituency have already intensified ahead of the anticipated by-election. Various political parties have begun their campaign and outreach programmes. In this context, the review meeting by the Election Commission delegation is being seen as a significant step in the preparation process for the by-election.

The administration has stated that, following the directives of the Election Commission, election preparations will be further strengthened to ensure a free, fair, and peaceful electoral process in Dharmanagar.
