Sonamura, Tripura, 27th of March 2026 : The arrested individual has been identified as Amir Hossain (24), S/O Jalil Khandakar, a resident of Bordowal Munshibari under Sonamura Police Station in Sepahijala district of Tripura.
A sharp blade, a packet of chanachur, a Good Knight liquid mosquito repellent, and an Android mobile phone were also recovered from his possession. These items were reportedly purchased using counterfeit notes from Seven Heavens Shopping Mall located at Sonamura Bridge Chowmuhani. He was caught red-handed in connection with the incident.
A case has been registered against him at Sonamura Police Station. A special police team is interrogating him in phases regarding the counterfeit notes, and several sensational leads and names have reportedly emerged during questioning.
These inputs have been shared with the state intelligence agency and central intelligence authorities, and verification is currently underway. Based on the evidence, more arrests linked to the counterfeit currency racket are likely.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the network of the accused may be spread across Sonamura, Kakraban, Jatrapur, and Bishalgarh. He is scheduled to be produced before the court today with a plea for appropriate police remand.
