Dharmanagar, Tripura, 27th of March 2026 : Mangal Khali village in North Tripura district turned into a virtual battlefield on Thursday as local residents erupted in protest over the murder of Khaled Ahmed. Anger had been simmering in the area for days, with people demanding the immediate arrest of the main accused. That anger eventually spiraled into violence. on Thursday From around 9:30 AM, over a hundred protesters blocked the road in front of the Mangal Khali Grand Mosque for nearly two hours. Burning tyres lined the streets, and the air echoed with loud slogans. The atmosphere grew heavy with grief as the victim’s family members broke down in tears.Protesters alleged that despite several days passing since the incident, police had failed to arrest the main accused.

Repeated assurances from authorities did little to calm the situation, pushing public frustration to a boiling point. As tensions escalated, an agitated mob took the law into their own hands and attacked the houses of the accused. Three residential houses belonging to Jubel Ahmed, Saddam Hussain, and Sabbir Hussain were set ablaze and quickly reduced to ashes. Two fire engines rushed to the spot and managed to bring the flames under control, but by then, the damage had already been done.
To bring the situation under control, Additional Superintendent of Police of North District, Kamal Debbarma, along with Sub-Divisional Police Officer Jayanta Karmakar and a large police force, reached the scene. Following assurances of prompt action from the administration, protesters eventually lifted the blockade. However, tension continues to prevail in the area, and additional police personnel have been deployed to maintain security.

It is worth noting that the incident traces back to last Saturday, on the day of Eid, when Khaled Ahmed and his brother Juned Ahmed were attacked with sharp weapons. Both were initially admitted to the district hospital and later referred to Silchar for advanced treatment. Khaled Ahmed succumbed to his injuries during treatment, while Juned Ahmed continues to fight for his life.Several individuals have been named as accused in the case, but their arrest is still pending, further fueling public outrage. Residents have issued a clear warning that protests will intensify if swift action is not taken. The situation in Mangal Khali remains highly sensitive, with all eyes now on the administration to see how quickly they can restore order and bring the culprits to justice.
