Dharmanagar, Tripura, 8th of May 2026 : The mysterious death of BJP Yuva Morcha Mandal President and Ward No. 5 Councillor Rahul Kishore Roy has intensified political tensions in Dharmanagar. Amid the growing controversy, newly elected MLA Jahar Chakraborty on Friday issued a stern warning during a press conference at the North District BJP office, stating that “none of the guilty will be spared.” However, his remarks have now triggered fresh political debate. A section of political observers has questioned whether the BJP leadership is attempting to distance itself from individuals whose names have been circulating locally since Rahul’s death and against whom public anger has reportedly been mounting. During the press conference, Jahar Chakraborty claimed that those being named in connection with the incident are not office-bearers of the party, but merely “some overenthusiastic youths using the BJP name.”

His statement has reportedly caused resentment even within sections of the party.Critics allege that several of these youths had long been visibly active in party rallies, programmes, and political activities, and that the leadership is now trying to deny any association with them in an attempt to evade responsibility after the incident. Members of Dharmanagar’s civil society are asking, “How can people who were seen carrying the party flag for so long suddenly become outsiders?”Although the MLA appealed for peace and law and order during the press conference, opposition parties claim that fear and anger have already spread among the public. Many believe that instead of ensuring a swift and transparent investigation into Rahul Kishore Roy’s death, political explanations are being prioritised.North District BJP President Kajal Das also stated that “the party never shelters criminals.”

However, opposition leaders mocked the statement, arguing that similar remarks had been made in previous incidents as well, while doubts remain over how much concrete action was actually taken.Political analysts believe that this is a major test for newly elected MLA Jahar Chakraborty. On one hand, he must protect the party’s image, while on the other, he faces mounting demands for justice for the deceased youth leader’s family. Balancing these two pressures may now become his biggest political challenge.
