Dharmanagar, Tripura, 18th of May 2026 : A wave of grief has swept across Dharmanagar following the demise of former minister Kalidas Dutta. On Monday, a large number of party workers, administrative officials, and local residents gathered to pay their final respects during his funeral procession.

The veteran Congress leader had been elected from the Dharmanagar Assembly constituency as a Congress candidate from 1988 to 1993 and had served as the Minister of Land Revenue and Land Reforms in the Tripura Government.The final journey began around 12 noon on Monday from his residence at Nayapara. His mortal remains were first taken to the Dharmanagar District Congress Bhavan, where Congress workers and supporters paid their last respects to their beloved leader. Many present became emotional while remembering the late leader’s political and social contributions. Senior leaders recalled his dedication and service to society.The funeral procession later reached the Dharmanagar crematorium, where he was accorded state honours.
On behalf of the administration, the Additional District Magistrate paid tribute to him. Sub-Divisional Police Officer Jayanta Karmakar and Sub-Divisional Magistrate Debayani Chowdhury also offered tributes.Newly elected MLA of Dharmanagar Assembly constituency, Jahar Chakraborty, was present and said, “Kalidas Dutta was an important figure in the political life of Dharmanagar. His contributions will be remembered for a long time.”Representing the Congress party were District President Digbijoy Chakraborty, Pradesh Congress Committeehn member Chayan Bhattacharya, along with several other party leaders. They highlighted the late leader’s political journey, dedication to the organization, and his commitment to standing beside ordinary people.
Several administrative officials and distinguished personalities were also present to pay their respects. The large turnout of common people during the final procession reflected the deep respect and affection people had for the veteran leader. Eminent citizens remarked that his demise has created an irreparable void in the political and social sphere of Dharmanagar.
