Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Showcases India’s Tribal Heritage Through Diplomatic Gifts To World Leaders.

New Delhi, Delhi, 26th of May, 2026 : Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi showcased India’s rich tribal heritage and traditional craftsmanship during his recent diplomatic engagements by presenting specially curated gifts representing the country’s diverse indigenous art and cultural traditions to world leaders.

As a symbol of India’s vibrant tribal art legacy, a traditional Gond painting from Madhya Pradesh was presented to Crown Princess Victoria, Crown Princess of Sweden. Created by the Gond tribal community, the art form is internationally recognised for its intricate dot-and-line patterns, vivid natural colours and depiction of nature-inspired themes. Gond art continues to provide sustainable livelihood opportunities to tribal artisans across central India.

Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni of Italy was gifted a traditional Muga Silk stole from Assam along with a Shirui Lily stole crafted by the Tangkhul Naga community of Manipur. Muga Silk, known for its distinctive natural golden sheen and durability, represents Assam’s centuries-old weaving tradition and holds a Geographical Indication (GI) tag. The Shirui Lily stole reflects the cultural identity and artistic traditions of the Tangkhul Naga tribe and draws inspiration from Manipur’s rare state flower, the Shirui Lily.

Her Majesty the Queen Mother of the UAE received Black Rice (Chak-Hao) from Manipur, a heritage grain traditionally cultivated by tribal hill communities of the region. Widely recognised for its nutritional and medicinal value, Chak-Hao represents the rich agricultural traditions preserved by indigenous communities over generations.

Through these diplomatic gestures, the Hon’ble Prime Minister highlighted India’s tribal traditions, indigenous craftsmanship and cultural heritage on the global stage, while also recognising the invaluable contribution of tribal communities in preserving the nation’s artistic and cultural diversity.
