Dharmanagar, Tripura, 9th of June 2026 : Allegations have surfaced that the unrestricted movement of heavy-load Hyva trucks in Dharmanagar town of North Tripura is causing severe damage to the city’s main roads. Although the administration has imposed restrictions on the movement of heavy vehicles on certain roads within the town, local residents claim that these rules are not being enforced effectively.

According to complaints, several Hyva trucks continue to travel through important roads in the town during nighttime hours. The excessive weight carried by these vehicles is creating large potholes and damaging the asphalt surface, causing significant inconvenience to motorists and pedestrians alike.
Residents allege that despite the problem persisting for a long time, the authorities have failed to take effective action. Many have criticized the traffic department, claiming that its focus remains largely on fining motorcyclists for not wearing helmets, while little visible effort is being made to prevent the movement of heavy vehicles that are reportedly among the primary causes of road damage.
The condition of roads in several parts of the town has already deteriorated to such an extent that even light rainfall leads to water logging in potholes, increasing the risk of accidents. Business owners, auto-rickshaw drivers, and ordinary citizens have demanded immediate restrictions on the entry of Hyva and other overloaded heavy vehicles into the town, along with the mandatory use of alternative routes.
Meanwhile, members of the public are questioning how these vehicles continue to violate restrictions and use the town’s main roads despite existing prohibitions. Questions are also being raised regarding the role of the administration and the traffic department in addressing the issue.
Residents of Dharmanagar have urged the authorities to take strict and immediate measures to protect the town’s roads and ensure safe transportation for the public. Concerned citizens warn that if prompt action is not taken, the situation could become far more serious in the future.
